The Story of Cabañas Ecológicas Las Bellotas: A Dream That Grew Among Nature and Our Mennonite Roots

It all started with an idea: To offer something unique

We love to travel. Throughout our travels, we've discovered places that have inspired us, spaces that have made us feel comfortable, and experiences that stay with us long after we return home.

Those experiences sparked an idea: Why not bring a little bit of everything we love about those places back to our own region?

We wanted to create something different from what was already available in Chihuahua. We weren't looking to build just another hotel or another group of cabin rentals. Instead, we wanted to offer a concept of our own: cozy cabins with character, surrounded by nature and designed for people who want to unwind, spend quality time together, and enjoy some peace and quiet.

And so, the dream of Cabañas Ecológicas Las Bellotas began.

A concept inspired by our surroundings

From the beginning, we wanted Las Bellotas to have its own identity, connected to the place where it is located: Campo 10, Villa Encinos, in the Mennonite Colonies near Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua.

The Mennonite community and the surroundings of our region, known for its three cultures, are part of what makes this place special. We wanted this project to be more than simply a place built in the middle of nature. We wanted it to reflect something of the roots and surroundings that make this region unique.

We've always wanted to offer a different kind of experience, with private, welcoming spaces where people can enjoy time together, away from the noise and rush of everyday life.

That's why peace and quiet are fundamental to our concept. We aren't a venue for parties or noisy gatherings. We're a place to rest, enjoy nature, and share special moments in a peaceful setting.

Growing without losing our essence

We started with six cabins, and little by little, the project began to grow.

Over time, we added more cabins and developed new spaces to offer different ways to stay and spend time together. Today, Cabañas Las Bellotas has 15 cabins, along with our Lobby and De Grootestow.

Each stage represented another step toward the original vision we had from the beginning: creating a welcoming, distinctive complex where guests could enjoy their stay in comfort and tranquility.

With the addition of these spaces, we feel that the concept we originally imagined has come together. That doesn't mean we've stopped dreaming or that we won't introduce new ideas in the future. It simply means we've reached a very special stage in the story of Las Bellotas.

Building With Respect for Nature

From the beginning, we wanted the development of Cabañas Las Bellotas to reflect our appreciation for the natural surroundings we love so much.

During the construction of our cabins, we didn't cut down live trees to make room for the project. Instead, we sought to adapt the buildings to the land and preserve the existing trees. We believe nature shouldn't simply be the scenery surrounding our facilities; it should be an essential part of the experience.

We also made an effort to source locally made materials whenever possible. Supporting businesses and suppliers in our region was a way to contribute to our community while giving the project a more authentic connection to the place it calls home.

Caring for the environment is also part of our everyday decisions:

  • Solar energy: Our facilities operate on solar power.

  • More environmentally conscious cleaning: We use eco-friendly cleaning products.

  • Responsible water use: We use drip irrigation systems for our trees.

  • Landscaping suited to our environment: We avoid large areas of grass that require significant amounts of water to maintain.

We know that caring for the environment is an ongoing responsibility. That's why we strive to make choices that allow us to enjoy nature while remembering our responsibility to preserve it.

A place to enjoy what truly matters

Beyond the cabins and facilities, what we've always wanted to create is a place where people can slow down.

A place to wake up surrounded by nature, share a meal, talk without rushing, enjoy a peaceful afternoon, or simply take a break from everyday routines.

We like to think that every guest can find their own way to enjoy Las Bellotas, whether visiting as a couple, with family, or sharing a stay with friends.

That has been our purpose from day one: to offer something different, with its own identity and thoughtful details that make a place feel special.

What began as an idea inspired by our travels has gradually become a project that fills us with pride.

Today, we continue to enjoy watching it grow and evolve without losing what inspired it in the first place: our desire to create a welcoming, distinctive place connected to nature and our region.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey, and to all those who visit us and allow us to share this special place with them.
