A New Gathering Space at Cabañas Ecológicas Las Bellotas
A space designed for gathering, inspired by our roots
We are currently working on creating De Grootestow, a project that grew out of our desire to offer groups a spacious and comfortable indoor gathering place while preserving the peaceful atmosphere that defines Cabañas Ecológicas Las Bellotas.
As the project takes shape, we want to share the story behind the idea, how it came about, and the inspiration behind its name.
Our property offers outdoor common areas where guests can gather and enjoy nature. However, due to changing weather conditions and the cold winters in our region, we began to recognize the need for a spacious indoor area where groups could comfortably spend time together throughout the year.
And that’s how the idea for De Grootestow - La Gran Sala, was born.
From a Shared Space to a New Idea
In the beginning, the building that now serves as the Lobby was intended to be a common area for cabin guests. It was a place where they could gather and spend time together, especially when the weather made it difficult to enjoy the outdoor spaces.
Over time, we realized that this arrangement wasn’t ideal when the building was rented separately while other guests were staying in the cabins. Having different groups sharing the main courtyard affected the privacy and tranquility we strive to offer our guests.
We knew we needed to find a better solution: a separate space where groups could gather comfortably without disturbing the peace and quiet of the rest of the property.
That’s why we decided to transform the original building into the Lobby we know today and begin developing a new idea: creating a larger space specifically designed for group gatherings and get-togethers.
The meaning of "De Grootestow"
The name De Grootestow holds a special meaning for us, as it is inspired by our Mennonite roots.
Traditionally, many Mennonite homes had a special room used primarily for receiving guests. It was a space reserved for when family, friends, and other visitors came over to socialize and spend time together.
More than just an extra room, it represented a place dedicated to hospitality, conversation, and shared moments.
That tradition inspired us when we envisioned De Grootestow, which translates to “The Great Room” in English. We wanted to bring back the idea of having a special place to welcome guests, but adapt it into a larger space where entire groups could gather and enjoy a variety of activities.
Although the space is much larger, the essence remains the same: creating a place where people can gather and feel at home.
Designed for group rentals
De Grootestow is being designed with the needs of groups in mind, offering a comfortable and functional space for gathering together.
Unlike the kitchens in our cabins, this space will feature a more fully equipped kitchen, designed to make preparing meals for larger groups easier.
We also plan to provide round tables and chairs, which will be included in the rental of the space. This will allow each group to arrange the furniture according to their needs, whether they are sharing a meal, holding a meeting, or taking part in a group activity.
Our goal is to offer a versatile indoor space that complements the outdoor common areas at Cabañas Las Bellotas and provides more options for gathering, regardless of the weather.
A new chapter for Cabañas Las Bellotas
De Grootestow represents much more than the construction of a new space. It is part of our growth and our commitment to listening to our guests’ needs while staying true to the original concept of Cabañas Ecológicas Las Bellotas: offering a peaceful place where people can disconnect from their daily routines, enjoy nature, and spend quality time together.
As the project progresses, we’ll share more details about its features and the possibilities it will offer.
We hope De Grootestow becomes a place where families, friends, and groups can gather, share meals, exchange ideas, hold retreats, and create new memories, all while enjoying the peaceful, natural atmosphere that defines Cabañas Las Bellotas.
